A look behind the scenes

Throughout the year leading up to the ‘lighting’ of De Lichtjesroute on 18 September, many Eindhoven residents are busy in the main building and the workshop on Pastoriestraat conceiving. building, repairing and realising the ornaments. During the winter months, interested parties can see these activities with their own eyes by appointment (by phone or email). Read more about De Lichtjesroute below.

De Lichtjesroute is an independent foundation with its own board. The foundation employs an average of 80 volunteers. From July to December, ornaments are hung and brought back inside. During the winter months, the ornaments are maintained, repaired and innovated. The number of small ornaments - mostly on light masts - is about 500. Larger ornaments, called projects are about 25. These projects are on their own masts and are characterised by their large size. The largest project measures 7×8 m, so almost 60 m2. The smaller ornaments hang in street groups and have themes, such as sports, animals, musical instruments and the zodiac. The largest projects are related to the city line/ road of the liberators from Bayeux via Tienen to Eindhoven, from where it continues into the Netherlands via Wageningen. Besides its own workshops and storage sheds, De Lichtjesroute also has its own vehicles such as a crane truck and an aerial platform.
